Allianz Global Assistance was known as Mondial Assistance before February 2012. 

Allianz’s global headquarters are in Paris, France, and the company has regional offices in over 34 countries. The company is one of the world’s largest providers of comprehensive and specialty travel insurance products and services. The company did a complete revamp and re-introduced their new product offerings May 1, 2023.

Advantages

  • No medical questionnaire required and 90 day stability period under age 65. Over age 65, simplified medical questionnaire and 150 day stability.
  • No maximum age limit.
  • All travel plans include dedicated 24-hour assistance.

Disadvantages

  • Only two deductible options, $0 and $500.
  • Prior to the revamp in May 2023, there were many customer complaints about the claims experience. This appears to have been resolved with the new product launch.
  • The annual Flex Plan requires you pre-determine the number of days and location of your travel for the year in advance.

Allianz Emergency Medical Travel Insurance Plans

Alliance offers a Single Trip Emergency Medical Plan, Cancellation and Interruption Plan, Non-Medical Package, Trip Interruption only, a Comprehensive Coverage Plan, an annual (multi-trip) Emergency Medical Plan and the new Annual Flex Plan.

Allianz Single Trip Emergency Medical Plan

This plan is available for any traveler with no age limit. Over age 65 requires a simple medical questionnaire. This single trip plan by Allianz plan includes Emergency Medical cover of up to 10 million, $5,000 dental emergency, accommodation and meals amounts of up to $300 per day for a maximum of $1,500, vehicle return cover for up to $5,000 and 24-hour assistance.

It doesn’t include trip cancellation or interruption or baggage coverage. You need to purchase the separate non-medical coverage for trip cancellation, interruption or baggage benefits.

Allianz Trip Cancellation and Interruption Plan

This plan provides trip cancellation and interruption coverage if a prepaid trip is cancelled before your departure, or delayed or interrupted. The Allianz Non-Medical Package plan includes baggage coverage of up to $1,000, baggage delay cover of up to $400, trip delay cover of up to $350 per day to a maximum of $1,500, unlimited trip interruption cover and trip cancellation cover of up to sum insured.

Allianz Comprehensive All-Inclusive Travel Insurance

This plan includes a complete package of all Allianz travel benefits including emergency medical coverage of $10 million, unlimited emergency medical transportation, trip cancellation of up to sum insured, unlimited trip interruption, trip delay of up to $350 per day to a maximum of $1,500, baggage coverage of up to $1,000, baggage delay of up to $400, accommodation and meals of up to $500 per day up to $5,000, vehicle return of up to $5,000 and 24-hour assistance.

Allianz Annual (Multi-Trip) Emergency Medical Plan

This Emergency Medical plan is offered as a 4, 8, 15 or 35 day annual policy. The Comprehensive Plan is offered as a 15 or 35 day annual policy and both are available for individuals and groups (not restricted to families).

Benefits include emergency medical cover of up to $10 million, dental to $5,000, emergency medical transportation, accommodation and meals of up to $500 per day up to $5,000, vehicle return of up to $5,000, pet return up to $500 and 24-hour assistance.

Trip cancellation, interruption and baggage coverage only included with the Comprehensive Plan.

Allianz Annual Flex Plan

Emergency medical coverage for travel outside of Canada, providing coverage for a specific number of travel days within a one-year period, based on individual travel plans. Coverage days can be used across multiple trips to international destinations including the United States (if selected). Acts as a bank of travel days to withdraw from.

Benefits include emergency medical cover of up to $10 million, dental to $5,000, emergency medical transportation, accommodation and meals of up to $500 per day up to $5,000, vehicle return of up to $5,000, pet return up to $500 and 24-hour assistance.

Tips for Saving with Allianz Travel Insurance

If you take two or more trips per year, a multi-trip (annual) policy can save you money. The Flex Plan is usually cheaper, but you need to know all planned travel for the year in advance. The $500 deductible level reduces the premium by approximately 25%.

Refunds

You can get a refund on your insurance premium will be if you cancel the policy within a period of 10 days after purchase. However, this applies if you have not left for your trip or filed a claim.
