HSBC travel insurance is provided by HSBC Bank Canada, a subsidiary of HSBC Holds Plc. The HSBC Group has around 6,600 offices in 81 countries.

The company offers several commercial services domestically and internationally including travel insurance products. The HSBC Bank Canada head office is in Vancouver.

Advantages

Disadvantages

  • The plans offered by the company have low maximum age limits (60 and 64)
  • There is no special travel insurance plan for students
  • Only 2 travel insurance plans are available
  • Policy documents are difficult to read and full of legalese

HSBC Travel Insurance Plans

HSBC Travel Insurance offers two insurance products: HSBC Multi Trip Insurance and HSBC Single Trip.

HSBC Single Trip Insurance

This plan covers travellers making a single trip only. Coverage includes emergency medical coverage of up to $2,000,000 per person, trip interruption of up to $5,000 per person and baggage cover of up to $2,000 per family per trip.

HSBC Multi Trip (Annual) Insurance

This plan is intended for travelers making  an unlimited number of trips within a 12 month period. Coverage is provided for up to 10 days per trip. This plan includes emergency medical coverage of up to $2,000,000 per person, trip interruption of up to $5,000 per person and baggage cover of up to $2,000 per family per trip. Top ups for extended travel is possible.

Refunds

You must request all refunds in writing. All amounts are refunded less an administration fee of $25 CAD.

HSBC provides partial refunds on single trip policies if you return before your scheduled return date with proof of early return (e.g., customs or immigration stamp)

You Need to Know

All insurance products sold by the HSBC Insurance Agency are underwritten by the AIG Insurance Company of Canada and administered by Travel Guard.

You must have a valid Canadian government health insurance plan and purchase your insurance before your trip commences.
