RSA Travel Insurance, with over 4,200 employees, is one of the largest travel and health insurance companies in Canada.

The company purchased etfs in 2011.

RSA sells its travel insurance policies under the Medi-Select Advantage® name.

Advantages

  • Travellers aged 55-79 may travel anywhere up to 21 consecutive days without completing a medical questionnaire
  • Travellers to the United States get access to RSA’s Doctor-On-Call™ service, which lets you get in direct touch with a licensed U.S. physician – and even receive a home visit in an emergency
  • There is no age limit for most travel insurance products
  • If you’re under age 54, the stability period for pre-existing conditions is 90 days under most plans (see your policy for details)
  • All plans have a $0 deductible

Disadvantages

  • You’ll need to answer medical eligibility questions if you’re age 55 and above
  • RSA has so many different plans that it can be confusing to choose among them

RSA has are travel insurance plans for travelling Canadians, snowbirds, visitors to Canada, international students, expatriates, Canadians seeking rapid healthcare access, travel insurance for home & auto insurance policyholders, travel insurance for members of Canadian associations, businesses and groups. You can also get  family coverage, top ups, extensions and special group rates.

RSA Travel Insurance Plans

RSA offers several travel insuranceplans, including the Multi-Trip Annual Plan, the All-Inclusive Multi-Trip Annual Plan, the Single Trip Daily Plan, the Snowbird Single Trip Plan, the Non-Medical Plan, the Single Trip Canada Plan, and a customized Medical Underwriting Plan. These plans include medical cover.

Medi-Select Advantage® Single Trip Daily Plan

This plan gives $5 million in emergency medical coverage for a single trip of up to 182 consecutive days outside your territory of residence or your home province. You can get the single trip as a top up for an existing plan.

Medi-Select Advantage® Canada Travel Insurance Plan

This plan provides $5 million in emergency medical coverage for a single trip of up to 182 consecutive days outside your  territory of residence or province within Canada. You cannot get this plan as a top up.

Snowbird 55 to 79 Vacation Plan Single Trip Insurance

This plan covers Canadians aged from 55 to 79 and traveling outside your province or territory within Canada, or outside Canada, for a maximum period of 21 days. The plan offers $5 million in emergency medical coverage.

You cannot get this plan as a top up.

Medi-Select Advantage® Multi-Trip Annual Plan

This plan offers coverage for an unlimited number of 4, 9, 16, 30 or 60 day trips (ages 0-79) to any part of the world in addition to unlimited travel within Canada but outside your province of residence. For ages 80 and over, the maximum trip duration is 4, 9 or 16 days, depending on the plan you get.

You can purchase a Single Trip Daily Plan to top up coverage.

Medi-Select Advantage® All-Inclusive Multi-Trip Annual Plan

This plan offers $5 million emergency medical insurance of multiple trips in a year, plus trip cancellation, trip interruption and baggage and personal effects inslrance. If you’re age0 to 79, you can choose from a 4, 9, 16, 30 or 60 days plan. For ages 80 and over, the maximum trip duration is 4, 9 or 16 days, depending on the plan you get.

You can purchase a Single Trip Daily Plan to top up coverage.

Medi-Select Advantage® Non-Medical Travel Insurance Plan

This plan provides cover for trip interruption, trip cancellation, lost, damaged or delayed baggage and accidental death and dismemberment. The plan can be purchased with the Canada Plan or any Single Trip Plan. It is part of the All-Inclusive plans.

You can also get the Single Trip Non-Medical plan as a top up to the trip cancellation amounts under your All-Inclusive Multi-Trip Annual Plan.

40-Day Supplemental Multi-Trip Annual Plan For Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) Members

You must be a member of the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSCHP), and you must have purchased the 40-Day Supplemental Multi-Trip Annual Plan.

Coverage is for $5 million in medical expenses, and up to $4,000 per policy, per year for trip cancellation and trip interruption or delay. There’s no age limit, and a 90 day pre-existing condition stability period.

Medical Underwriting Travel Insurance Plan

This plan offers a custom rate for persons who are not eligible for the predetermined risk categories.

Tips for Saving with RSA Travel Insurance

Family coverage is available for families where the oldest member is aged 54 or under

If you take multiple trips in a year, a multi-trip annual policy may save you money over getting single trip policies.

Refunds

  • For multi-trip plans, you can you can cancel the policy, in writing, within 10 days after receiving the contract.
  • For single trip plans, you can get a full refund if you make a written request before the effective date of the coverage. If you return before your scheduled return date, you can get a pro-rated refund (less a $25 administration fee) if you haven’t made a claim.

  • RSA Travel Insurance products are underwritten by the Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada. They are administered by RSA Travel Insurance Inc. which operates as the RSA Travel Insurance Agency in British Columbia.
  • For travel insurance plans, you must be a Canadian resident and be covered by the government health insurance plan (GHIP) of your Canadian province or territory of residence for the entire duration of your trip.
  • Policy details may differ for Quebec residents.

Medi-Select Advantage™ Emergency Medical Insurance for Visitors to Canada

This plan is for people visiting Canada for business, as tourists, or waiting for Canadian resident status.

The Visitors to Canada plan covers a single person or the whole family, and you can choose from emergency medical coverage amounts of: $10,000, $15,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000 or $150,000.

The plan is offered to persons aged 69 and under. The plan has a $0 or $1,000 deductible for persons aged 85 and under, and a $500 deductible for persons aged 86 and above. Maximum coverage is for 365 days.

The plan includes temporary visits to other countries excluding your country of origin.

Medi-Select™ Medical Insurance for International Students

This plan is designed for students (and their dependents) who are enrolled for  study programs in Canada who aren’t covered by a Canadian government health insurance plan.

There are three plans: Health Insurance, Emergency Medical Insurance and Emergency Medical Insurance for Graduates.

Viator™ Expatriate Insurance

This plan is suitable for Canadians studying or working outside Canada under the age of 70. It includes up to $1 million for injury or sickness and many other benefits. This plan is not available to residents of Germany, Switzerland and the Abu Dhabi state in UAE.

Viator Priority Care Health Insurance

This coverage is designed for people who need quick access to healthcare in Canada. It offers $2 million in health care coverage per personIt is available to Canadian residents only (infants over 60 days of age and adults up to 74 years old).

Travel Now!® Multi-Trip Annual Travel Insurance for RSA Home and Auto Insurance Policyholders

This plan is for people who have an auto or home insurance policy through RSA who take multiple trips each year.

The Travel Now! Policy is offered as both a Medical Multi-Trip Annual Family Plan and an All-Inclusive Multi-Trip Annual Family Plan, and with 9, 16, 30 or 60 day options Benefits include up to $5 million for emergency medical expenses, coverage up to the age of 64, and zero deductible.

The All-Inclusive option includes up to $6,000 for trip cancellation, $6,000 for trip interruption, $2,000 for loss of baggage and no questionnaires to fill. You can get top up insurance for extra days. You can only purchase this policy through your property and casualty insurance broker.

RSA Travel Insurance for Members of Canadian Associations

This is a multi-trip plan offered to members of Canadian associations, including United Commercial Travelers (UCT) and and PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors travel insurance).

You can choose between the Emergency Medical Plan and the All-Inclusive Plan, with 9 and 30 day multi-trip options. Benefits of this plan include $5 million in comprehensive emergency medical cover, emergency medical services, diagnostic services, emergency dental pain relief for $350 and remote evacuation $5,000..

The All-Inclusive option includes trip cancellation, trip interruption and lost baggage benefits.

Viator™ Businesses Group Travel Insurance

RSA offers group health insurance plans for companies and businesses traveling in groups of more than 25 persons.

Employees must be covered under a Canadian government health insurance plan. Coverage periods are from 30-120 days, and pre-existing condition stability periods range from 0 to 12 months.

The Plus plan offers hospital and physician fees, diagnostic services, and emergency air transportation, while the Advantage plan offers the same benefits as the Plus plan with higher maximums and additional benefits, including trip cancellation and baggage insurance.

Insurance for Universities and Schools

These programs are offered for international students who are pursuing studies in Canada.

They include the Medi-Select Health Insurance, which covers students for a long-term basis and the Emergency Medical Insurance plan that covers students on short-term basis. All students must be age 65 and below.
