RSA (Royal Sun Alliance) Travel Insurance Inc./Assurance Voyage RSA Inc., with over 4,200 employees, was one of the largest travel and health insurance companies in Canada. In 2011, RSA purchased etfs Travel Insurance, a well-known ‘snowbird’ travel insurance specialist provider based in Sherbrooke Quebec. Together, under the RSA branding, they sold travel insurance plans directly to the public under the Medi-Select Advantage® name, as well as administering a considerable number of private ‘white-label’ travel insurance plans for travel agencies, travel insurance brokerages, credit cards, banks programs, etc.
However, in 2021, after doing a strategic review (and in the midst of the pandemic) RSA decided to sell its business to Intact Financial Corporation. According to CanadianUnderwriter.ca, Intact Financial has folded the RSA business along with other acquisitions such as Anthony Insurance and Johnson Insurance under the new ‘business unit’, Belairdirect.
