It seems that almost every day in the media there's a new report of cartel violence in Mexico. The headlines are grisly and often brutal. It's hard to know what to do. Do you travel to Mexico, given the reports of violence? Given that Mexico's an affordable, favorite place to travel for many Canadians, this is a real problem. Millions of Canadians travel to Mexico every year, and the reports of Canadians being hurt are few. Most of the violence seems limited to the drug cartels. But is Mexico safe for Canadians?

Official Canadian Government Travel Warning Against Travel to Nigeria

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada has issued an official warning against non-essential travel to Nigeria.

A new travel health notice has been issued on Lassa fever in Nigeria. The warning is targeted for individuals or live or work in endemic areas (especially humanitarian aid workers and health care workers). Most travellers outside of these areas and groups should be at low risk.

There is a significant risk of crime, banditry, and terrorism in Nigeria, according to the Government of Canada. In particular, the United States government published an April 18 emergency message, stating that terrorist attacks may be planned against hotels frequently used by Westerners in the city of Abuja.
